Boutique Bargains and Beyond, a unique site that teaches online merchants what sells on eBay, is offering a special discount to entice new members. With an eye toward retail’s biggest season, owner Jenn Cangelosi has titled the event Christmas in July, and is giving gifts as well as a $2 trial membership for new clients.
“It’s hard to get new eBay sellers to think six months ahead, but now really is the time to start gearing up for the Christmas season,” Mrs. Cangelosi says. She went on to state that her sales typically begin to climb just after school starts. “If you don’t prepare ahead of time, you can become overwhelmed pretty quickly when it comes time to start promoting your holiday merchandise.”
She offers several eBay selling tips for those new to the game, including checking out your local consignment shops regularly for hot sellers like kid’s toys and holiday clothes. She also says now is the time to begin stocking up on packaging materials, adding that many times you can find boxes and packing peanuts for free if you know where to look.
In addition to the tips offered on her blog, Mrs. Cangelosi is giving one lucky Facebook fan a free eBay store or auction listing review. “I see so many eBay stores that could be much more successful if they just made a few small changes. Sometimes all you need is a second set of eyes to see where the problems are.”
Mrs. Cangelosi went on to say that some of the biggest trouble spots for eBay sellers are photos, titles, and descriptions. Titles should contain the actual item name, and avoid the obvious attention grabbers like “Look!” and “Wow!” because those are not terms people search for on eBay. Descriptions should be accurate, and also contain the actual item name. As for photos, Mrs. Cangelosi says even an inexpensive camera can produce great results, and more is always better when it comes to pictures.
