In 2010 it was announced that a medical tourism project unlike anything previously seen in Central America, would be constructed in Guanacaste near the Liberia International airport. The project is the Sun Ranch Retirement Community.
To date news of the project has spread through affiliated reports by reputable online and offline publications like CBS Money Watch, El Financiero, Forbes and USA Today. Savvy investors are already circling for their piece of the opportunity that Sun Ranch holds. While many development projects struggle, Sun Ranch forges ahead and acquires substantial partners for this massive undertaking.
John Scheman, Master Developer for the Sun Ranch Project, had this to say:
"We are excited and anxious to bring Sun Ranch to Guanacaste. At over 2200 acres, Sun Ranch is a massive undertaking. As master developer, we are available to speak with qualified sub developers regarding acquisition or JV possibilities on chosen sectors of the project."
Most recently, the Sun Ranch project announced their joint venture with Costa Rica's prestigious hotel management firm, Bonanza Management Team. Currently, BMT is responsible for management of over 3000 rooms between Costa Rica and the USA. Known for their affiliation with influential hotel brands like Ramada and Sheraton, the Bonaza Management Team are not new to branded hotel management.
However BMT is not alone with Sun Ranch.
In 2010, Grupo Do It S.A., master developers of Sun Ranch, announced they had officially agreed to terms with JV partners Hospital Clinica Biblica for the planned on site full service hospital. This portion of the project encompasses 50 acres with four main buildings including emergency and delivery rooms, recovery facilities, operating room, ICU, cardiology and more. Valued at an estimated $40 million, the new Hospital Clinica Bliblica is poised to set the bar high for years to come. Construction on the hospital is expected to begin 2012.
Although of late construction has been minimal, the forecast through 2012 is promising. Throughout the area there are a number of high priced development projects in the works including a full service marina in Playa Flamingo, CIMA, a privately held hospital is constructing a new hospital and to top it all off the Liberia International airport is nearing completion of their $30+ million dollar expansion to facilitate a larger number of tourists to the area. These are all positive signals of a thriving economy.
The sheer size of the Sun Ranch project alone tweaks many people's attention and at an estimated build out value of over $450 million, Sun Ranch surely could be the largest and most successful development project the country of Costa Rica has ever seen.
