As ice and snow storms continue to cover much of the US, airports are canceling flights, and businesses and other organizations are suspending operations. It is during events like this, and the Icelandic ash cloud that caused problems for travelers in Europe in 2010, that when available, integrated video and data conferencing can help businesses to continue to complete a sale, or to meet deadlines.
According to Bob McCandless, CEO of BrightCom, “When faced with obstacles, people can leverage video conferencing and data collaboration to continue with the basic business functions but without being in the office. Recently, however, a Forester Research survey found that 72% of workers in the US and Europe would rather use email or phone to communicate instead of desktop or home video conferencing due to feelings of unease on camera and the perceived lack of privacy. In response to this new finding, Mr. McCandless agrees that video is still the lowest common denominator when it comes to everyday human communication.
Mr. McCandless states, “It is obvious that at this time, people are more comfortable with sharing their lives and communicating through texts, tweets and status updates to the whole world, than they are broadcasting themselves live.”
But when faced with the inability to be present, specifically in a work environment, Mr. McCandless feels that BrightCom's integrated video and data conferencing can give employees in different locations the ability to continue working together on documents and materials and choose to use video when they need it.
