The HPCI Congress is a leading international exhibition & conference for scientific and technical topics in the Home and Personal care field. The HPCI Congress was co-organised by the Indian Society of Cosmetic Chemists (ISCC) and SOFW - Verlag fuer chemische Industrie. The two day conference on 16th-17 December 2010 focussed on " Naturals - Endless possibilities for Home and Personal Care". Ecocert-India was invited to present on the topic "Ecocert and Regulation for Naturals: The need, the process and the advantages of regulation. What is the global position." The interesting thing was that more than 40% stalls at HPCI congress ware ecocert certified companies.
“What we can eat the same should be applied on skin," said Dr. Pravin Khare, Product Development-Organic Cosmetic and Ecoproducts at Ecocert India, who presented the Ecocert Regulation on Organic Cosmetic.
Cosmetic regulations of organic cosmetics are emerging since 2002, when ECOCERT launched the first ever version of organic standards for cosmetics. These standards have paved directions of the production and processing of Natural and Organic Cosmetics. Ever since the launch of the first version of the standards, ECOCERT triggered a booming market for organic cosmetics - starting from Europe and spreading to the USA, Japan to other parts of the world.
"In 2010, 10% of the total European and 20% of the total Asian cosmetic market is expected to be dominated by certified organic cosmetic products. The European organic cosmetic market will boom to reach 3 billion euro by 2015.", said Khare.
These standards are now the founding principles for the formulation of organic cosmetics. Further, these standards have harmonized the different thought processes in the technical standards for organic cosmetics.
"Right now 11,000 products from 800 companies are controlled by the ECOCERT cosmetic regulations. These standards are based on continuously validated by the cosmetic industry professionals. Indian Ambassadors certified for Organic Cosmetics are Himalaya Global Holdings, Azafran Invocaion, Salicylates and Chemicals and Riverveda. Today, around 50 cosmetic products have been launched in the world market by Indian companies, which in my opinion is just the beginning and the days to come Indian sub-continent has to play a decisive role in the world market, thanks to its rich wealth of herbal and mineral resources," said Khare.
