The marketing landscape has shifted. Gone are the days when massive marketing budgets ensured success. The new power brokers are the social media influencers, the untold masses of individuals who reach hundreds of thousands of people a day through their Facebook and Twitter accounts, blogs and other grassroots marketing channels.
In this brave new marketing world, where any one person can build influence, more and more of these individuals are choosing to work for themselves instead of large corporations. As a result, the disconnect is growing between businesses who want to use social media but don’t know how and individual workers who could tap into their influence to promote a company’s product or service – if they only knew these businesses needed them.
However, with UpHype.com, a new website launched last month, businesses can easily find and hire these influencers and unlock the potential of grassroots marketing, without having to spend the company’s valuable time and resources building their own social media channels. UpHype is an innovative micro-payment marketplace that taps into the revolution in influence marketing, connecting any business buyer with savvy workers who use their unique talents and resources to get a message out – for $8, $16 or $24.
“We wanted to create a site for large corporations, but also for small businesses who don’t have the luxury of a huge marketing budget,” says Brad Ayres, UpHype’s founder. “It’s a great, inexpensive way to get the word out.”
UpHype makes it easy for both businesses and individual service providers. Anyone can create a small service job stating what they're willing to do to “hype” a business’s message. Hypes range from promoting a company’s message to a user’s 300,000 Twitter followers, sending an eblast to a list of over 300,000 people, inviting 40,000 Facebook users to a business’s fan page, creating a video podcast, promoting a company’s YouTube video, writing a press release or article for a business blog and anything in between.
Buyers can order these or any other hypes from 19 different categories of services, including Social Media, Blog Writing, SEO Work, Eblasts, Website Work, Podcasts, Design, Video and more. Buyers are required to pay for the hype in advance, and after the work is completed and accepted by the buyer, UpHype gives the task performer a majority cut of the fee. UpHype also posts buyer comments and a positive feedback score for each task performer, helping a buyer to decide who is the best worker for the job before ordering the hype.
