Outdoor Retailer’s Open Air Demo 2010 (OAD), happening August 2, 2010, has drawn a significant number of new exhibitors from across the industry to its new venue and added to the day’s line-up a variety of new brand-sponsored events.
Kicking off a weeklong gathering of the outdoor recreation industry, OAD will be held at Jordanelle State Park in Heber City, less than 40 miles from the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City where the indoor Summer Market will be held August 3-6, 2010.
“Open Air Demo is the first chance retailers have to get a peek at the innovative new designs being launched in the outdoor recreation marketplace,” said Kenji Haroutunian, Outdoor Retailer show director. “Testing gear in the natural setting it is designed for is an excellent educational opportunity for retailers as part of the decision making process, and I'm excited that we have so much participation this year.”
A few of the 20 plus brands new to OAD include Coldblack-Schoeller Technologies, Johnson Outdoors, O’Neill Wetsuits, Jetboil and Quiksilver.
“Exhibiting at Open Air Demo goes hand-in-hand with exhibiting at Outdoor Retailer,” said Sara Knies, Johnson Outdoors marketing director. “It will be a wonderful opportunity to get our dealers to test drive our 2011 products and for them to talk about the specifics of the kayak designs with the designers themselves.”
OAD will also host dozens of returning exhibitors, including Costa Del Mar Sunglasses of Daytona Beach, Florida.
“We love to hear product feedback from the attendees at Open Air Demo,” said Dave Bulthuis, Costa Del Mar Sunglasses vice president of sales. “The core outdoor people that attend OAD give us really insightful comments and we incorporate those ideas into our product lines.”

Quiksilver Waterman Collection SUP Challenge
Challenge your industry peers to a stand up paddle race or leisurely paddle out to the Quiksilver Waterman Collection hospitality pontoon boat on Jordanelle Reservoir. Either way, at any time during the day you can grab a drink at the Quiksilver Waterman Collection boat and enter for a chance to win a Quiksilver gift pack.
Scott Hawaii’s Live Ukulele Music
Scott Hawaii presents live music the entire day of OAD by Ukulele Underground's Aldrine Guerrero of Kauai. Guerrero will play adjacent to the beer garden at the Scott Hawaii booth and invites attendees to bring their own ukuleles to jam with him. Paddle for the Gulf with Slater Trout
Surf Hardware Int’l/FCS presents the Paddle for the Gulf race event to benefit The Nature Conservancy Gulf Coast wildlife rescue efforts. Paddle alongside Slater Trout, a world-renowned SUP paddler and surfer who grew up paddling in the Gulf of Mexico. Each participant’s $20 entrance fee goes to The Nature Conservancy. Sign-ups begin at 9 am at the FCS booth.
Surftech Stand Up Paddleboard Lessons by Laird Hamilton
Surftech is bringing Laird Hamilton, the world’s most famous Big Wave surfer, to OAD to give attendees stand up paddle lessons. Stop by the Surftech booth to learn more about opportunities to paddle with Hamilton, and to see his new stand up paddleboards and Surftech’s latest technology.
The Magellan GPS Treasure Hunt
The newest Magellan handhelds, including the geocaching-specific eXplorist GC, will be available to attendees that want to search for hidden treasures around the OAD geocaching course. Prizes include a chance to win Magellan GPS and other outdoor gear. Pick up geocaching gear at the Magellan booth.
Mountain House Plinko
Attendees can break from their business in the sun for new, tasty entrees and games of Plinko presented and prepared by Mountain House. Sign up to be one of the possible Plinko players by e-mailing MH-Info[.]ofd.com with your name, e-mail address and phone number, referencing OAD in the e-mail subject line. Those chosen to participate will be notified by July 26th. Prizes include Mountain House products and other great items. Games played and food served from 8 am to 4 pm.
Kayak Polo Pitch
Canoe & Kayak magazine and Delta Kayaks invite attendees to the first-ever “Kayak Polo Pitch” at OAD. Come to the shore at 11 am and 3 pm to watch the game. Experienced players will give instruction at 1 pm and are wanted to volunteer for the games.
