Cabrera is the former chairman, president and CEO of UOP LLC, a Honeywell company that supplies and licenses process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical and gas processing industries.
“With his strong background in petrochemicals, processing, and process technologies, Carlos’ expertise will be a valuable addition to Gevo’s Board of Directors as demand for our advanced biorefinery system continues to increase,” said Dr. Patrick Gruber, CEO of Gevo.
Cabrera held various managerial and technology positions during this 35-year career with UOP, most recently serving as president and CEO from 2005-2009. During that period, company revenue more than doubled. Prior to his appointment to president and CEO, Cabrera served as senior vice president of refining and petrochemicals. Before that, he worked as vice president of corporate development and new ventures, leading UOP’s two joint ventures in Japan. He also led the company’s first joint venture in China. He was a board member of all three joint ventures.
Since retiring in 2009, Cabrera has been appointed by the Chinese government as the first president and CEO of a new institute focused on the coal-to-energy and chemicals supply chain to reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the full process chain. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kentucky.
