David is delighted to be launching his new Red Arrows painting this summer as The Reds are amongst the world class pilots who were early supporters of David’s new work, inviting him to collaborate as Artist in Residence.
David’s in depth exploration of aviation began with a visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo in 2002 , which inspired him to create a new collection of modern artworks.
Always seeking to exhibit his work back at the source of inspiration, David returned to the Air Tattoo in 2003 with his first new pieces and just a B&Q tent as his gallery.
No one noticed the tent, they just stared at the pictures. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

People immediately contacted David, excited by his approach and intrigued to see what he might create next. An invitation to get up close to the F117 Nighthawk led David to begin to create his extraordinary and moody “Stealth Works Collection.”
A visit to see the iconic Vulcan in its disassembled state inspired “Return of the Vulcan.”
These new paintings and photo collages pushed the boundaries further as David introduced landscapes, unusual new contexts and hidden subtleties.
Themes began to repeatedly cross over from areas covered by David in his non aviation related work.
In 2005, David exhibited a new painting “Red Arrows Freestyling in the Bluebell Woods.”
A number of years earlier, David had been interested in stories of dolphins swimming through flooded forests and he had painted such a scene. To him, the shape of the Red Arrows Hawk jets reminded him of the dolphins. Quintessentially English bluebell woods seemed an appropriate setting for the jets.
This painting was the first in a collection that David continues to develop.

As David’s reputation as an innovative and challenging artist continued to grow, invitations to exhibit his acclaimed “Art of Flight Collection” poured in.
Time spent in the Arabian gulf region combined with Islamic principles of Art and Design influenced the creation of David’s “Plane Tesselations”.
At first glance, these are simple geometric patterns but closer inspection reveals a variety of aircraft shapes hidden within. As with much of David’s work, the more you look, the more you see.
Whilst early supporters of David’s work were from the world of aerospace, what has been interesting is the growth of collectors who aren’t. The appeal of his work broadened unexpectedly , transcending barriers of niche interest, nationality, age and sex. As an artist intrigued by the world around him, David’s appetite and ability to continually create new and challenging work is inspiring.

David’s Wiltshire studio and gallery are open to visit by appointment
