Strategy is of vital importance for any business and it is even more critical for a profession as young as coaching. Strategy For Coaches addresses this need with periodic fee-free webcasts on topics related to strategy and geared towards professional coaches. Strategy For Coaches, LLC has announced the webcast schedule for the remainder of 2010.
The webcast scheduled for 2nd Quarter 2010 is a repeat of our inaugural webcast, which provides a comprehensive introduction to strategy. Participants will learn what strategy is and what it is not and the difference between strategy and tactics. Examples of both good and bad strategies will be presented along with the typical process that is used to create, plan, manage and execute strategies. The concept of competitive advantage will be introduced which can be used to differentiate yourself from your competitors. Participants will be introduced to systems thinking and how it can be used to manage challenges that thwart typical problem-solving tactics. Scenario planning is a useful tool for dealing with uncertainty and scenario planning will be introduced along with examples of how it can be used in a coaching practice.
The webcast scheduled for 3rd Quarter 2010 will focus on competition, cooperation and co-opetition. Traditional business strategy is organized around competition––win/lose models fueled by market share frameworks. Competition is the bedrock of western capitalism. Competition and the quest for individual self-interests can lead to social dilemmas, however. Rational behavior to satisfy one’s own self-interests can often lead to a situation in which everyone is worse off than they might have been otherwise. Cooperation is traditionally considered the polar opposite of competition. In this webcast, the speaker asserts that competition and cooperation can under the right circumstances form a powerful dialectic. Strategy scholars Adam Brandenburger and Barry Nalebuff labeled this phenomenon co-opetition. Co-opetition is a revolutionary way of dealing with what could be potential adversaries by cooperating to create new wealth while competing to divide the wealth created. Co-opetition opens up new possibilities for profit in all your business relationships and is worth a careful look.
The webcast scheduled for 4th Quarter 2010 will focus on the Blue Ocean Strategy. Through intuition, trial and error or just plain luck, people stumble on strategies that have a proven track record of success. An amazing strategy for creating new markets through value innovation has been dubbed Blue Ocean Strategy after a book by that name from W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne. Although not likely intentional, this was the strategy that started the coaching profession. After a thorough introduction to the Blue Ocean Strategy, the remainder of the webcast will show how a more complete implementation of the strategy could make the coaching profession far more lucrative for the coaches while providing clients with an even better value proposition.
