Eric Juhlin has been named to head the corporation that owns and operates Stevens-Henager Colleges, CollegeAmerica, California College San Diego, and Independence University. He will be based in Salt Lake City.
In making the announcement of his selection, the Chairman of the Board, Carl Barney said, “In our search for an appropriate candidate, we sought to locate someone with integrity, knowledge of school operations, as well as an understanding of the U.S. Department of Education’s regulations and the accreditation standards. Fortunately, our search was a success! We got to interview someone who has spent his entire career in the career college field. He’s owned schools, served as a chairman of the Career College Association (CCA), and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).”
The institutions in this group are located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. There are twelve campuses in all with more than 11,000 students currently enrolled in a variety of online degree programs.
Mr. Juhlin received his education at UCLA where he earned a bachelor of science in psychobiology and at Southern Methodist University where he received his MBA. His mother, Carolyn Willard, founded a successful court reporting school in Dallas, where Mr. Juhlin initially learned the business, later branching the school into Houston. Following the sale of these colleges to Vatterott Education, Mr. Juhlin served as Texas regional vice president for them for two years. He has been active politically in Texas as well as with Congress, testifying to various legislative committees at both levels on issues critical to career colleges and their students. Besides being actively involved in ACICS and CCA, he belongs to the Business Education Research Associates, a national think-tank group, which centers on sharing the best practices of career education.
In responding to the announcement, Mr. Juhlin said, “I am extremely excited about this opportunity and honored to be a part of the future of the CollegeAmerica group. I am fortunate to have a skilled and experienced team of professionals to work with, who have been assembled and trained by Carl Barney.”
