GMO GlobalSign, Inc., one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA) and specialists in digital certificate security, has today announced a significant milestone for Ireland with the first successful e-Notarization being completed by David Walsh, Solicitor and Notary Public, and Registrar for the Faculty of Notaries Public in Ireland, using GlobalSign’s Adobe® Certified Document Services (CDS) solution branded as DocumentSign.
In today’s interconnected digital world, it is important for businesses and legal professionals to ensure that any data transmitted electronically across public networks, such as the Internet, retains its authenticity and integrity whilst shown to originate from a verified source. GlobalSign’s DocumentSign Digital ID is the ideal solution, allowing the creator to add certification and approval signatures to secure Adobe® PDF documents. The document recipient can then instantly verify the trusted status of the document in their natural language, simply by opening the file with a ubiquitous product such as Adobe Reader®.
Irish businesses and private citizens alike are now able to have their critical business documents e-Notarized by David and a growing number of Irish Notaries who have recognized the need to act as hubs and upload trusted business information on to the Internet. The ability for notaries to be able to offer the Internet as a highly available and environmentally friendly transport mechanism for notarized documents will act as a catalyst for eBusiness and eProcurement in 2010 and beyond. The PDF Advanced Electronic Signatures (PAdES) format is a recognized European Digital Signature format under the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Technical Standard (TS) 102 778 (announced by ETSI in September 2009). As companies move forward to comply with the recommendations of eProcurement initiatives, such as the Pan European Public Procurement Online (PEPPOL) project’s Virtual Company Dossier (VCD), notaries are also ideally placed to take advantage of the time lag between country-specific company registrars being able to offer the option of providing digitally signed company formation evidence. CDS compliant digital certificates enable an e-Notary to create an authentic digital copy of any formal evidence of a company formation.
The document e-Notarized by David was referred to the Department of Foreign Affairs for technical scrutiny and considered to be authentic. It may yet be the first Irish e-Notarial certificate to receive the e-Apostille in Ireland in due course, Ireland being well advanced in its e-Apostille pilot program.
