Celebrating a decade as the monthly bible for 3D design industry and enthusiasts, issue 130 of 3D World goes on sale Wednesday, 5th May and leads with a bumper tutorial section. The six in-depth lessons allow enthusiasts to follow experts through projects for leading 3D software packages – including Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D and the all-new Adobe CS5 – with the associated files, assets and videos included on the enclosed DVD.
In an exclusive deal with Unity 3D that delivers more than £1100 worth of assets and video packed onto the DVD, 3D World allows readers to get to grips with the complete Unity games development platform – used by leading companies including Disney and Warner Bros.
Inside, the very special birthday issue of 3D World is introduced by Industrial Light & Magic’s Visual Effects guru, John Knoll. Best known for his work on the Star Wars prequels, and the recent 3D blockbuster Avatar, the Academy-award winner exclusively discusses the major changes in 3D design over the latest decade.
Further highlights include a retrospective of the last decade in CG, describing a field which changes and evolves on an almost daily basis. Elsewhere, Volker Engel, VFX supervisor on Independence Day and 2012, reminisces about his earliest inspiration: the work of effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull.
Rounding off the bumper birthday package, 3D World offers four collectable limited edition prints, including an exclusive piece of art created in Photoshop CS5 – as well as giving one lucky reader the chance to win a monster 12-core 3D modelling workstation, as used by the professionals, worth over £4000.
Steve Jarratt, Senior Group Editor of Future’s 3D World, said: “It’s a huge honour to be editing 3D World as it reaches its 10th anniversary. CG is now a key pillar for Hollywood success, and a vital resource for TV productions and advertisers. The last ten years has seen the industry grow from a high-cost, boutique service to something anyone can do on their desktop computer at home. I’m genuinely excited to see what it will offer us over the course of the next ten years.”
Issue 130 of 3D World goes on sale Wednesday, 5th May – with a coverprice of £6.00, including five free gifts.
