The new industry-specific Germany-USA Career Center service targets sales, business development, engineering and finance professionals in the U.S., who are looking to make their next career step with a company in the rapidly expanding solar energy market in the United States.
The relaunched Solar-Jobs.com micro-site now provides a "Who's News" column (in English) and database of industry executives in solar/PV companies who are active both in the U.S. and in Germany. Other features include a Germany-USA Solar Industry Blog (English/German), a daily U.S. solar industry video news digest named "Daily Sun", as well as solar-related social media "feeds".
"The U.S. have become an attractive market for solar and renewable energy companies from Germany," said Gerd Meissner, Managing Partner USA of the Germany-USA Career Center. "The renewable energy sector, particularly solar in the U.S. shows indications of becoming an important factor for job market recovery in many regions."
While Germany has become the market leader in the field, a reduction of government subsidies for the solar sector expected for this year has led to a shake-out in the industry. Many companies now focus on the rapidly growing U.S. market for solar technology.
The 2nd German American Energy Conference recently in Berlin showed that German solar companies are well prepared for the U.S. market, Meissner said: "At the current stage, it may be too early to call it a 'solar boom' yet. But if it takes off, a lot will be driven by American companies with strong connections to Germany, and by German engineering."
About 70 percent of the applicants in the Germany-USA Career Center's database are either U.S. citizens or legal residents. More recently, the Career Center's candidate pool of bilingual, often highly educated applicants with business experience between the U.S. and Germany has become a main resource for German solar companies entering or expanding in the U.S. market.
In addition, a growing number of U.S. energy companies and equipment manufacturers is recruiting candidates with ties to the German solar and PV industry, according to Meissner: "Our clients are looking for engineers and technicians, sales and business development professionals, office managers and accountants who have worked with Germany before, and speak the language."
