The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s (SFMTA) resolution to award Veolia Transportation a new professional services contract to manage the San Francisco Paratransit Program.
The new contract goes into effect in April 2010 and has a five-year term, with one option for the SFMTA to extend an additional five years for a total of 10 years. Veolia Transportation has been managing paratransit services in San Francisco since April 1, 2000, which is a longer duration than any other prior contractor.
The new contract includes oversight of over 23 service providers, including van and taxi service providers, that deliver the paratransit service. Together, they provide in excess of 1.1 million one-way trips each year.
“The unanimous vote at the SFMTA Board, the Board of Supervisors Budget & Finance Committee and now the full Board makes it clear that both the community and public officials have great trust and respect for the work that Veolia Transportation does every day in San Francisco,” said Ron Bushman, regional vice president, Veolia Transportation. “We are very pleased with this award and appreciate our client’s trust in us. Together with our transportation partners, we look forward to continuing to provide top quality service to the San Francisco community.”
The SFMTA Board of Directors, led by Director Bruce Oka, who is a consumer of both paratransit and fixed-route services, approved the new contract citing Veolia Transportation’s past record of hard work and continual commitment to service quality. Director Oka, a long-time leader in the disability community, called the San Francisco paratransit program “the best one in the country.”
