Media5 Corporation, a leading developer of advanced Communications over IP products, services and developers solutions, today announced that its Media5-fone application for the Apple iPhone is VoIP over 3G ready, enabling iPhone and iPod Touch users to make and receive mobile calls over 3G, as well as WiFi, networks.
With the restrictions lifted last week by Apple for third party developers, Media5 has applied to Apple to activate the VoIP calls over 3G wireless networks feature for the Media5-fone Lite Edition.
“We had developed the 3G ready feature on the Media5-fone last year, and we are just waiting for Apple’s approval for activation,” explained Pascal Doré, Mobility Product Line Manager at Media5. “We are excited, as this change will now allow Media5-fone users to benefit from mobile VoIP using not only conventional WiFi networks but also from 3G Networks. For Service Providers and Enterprises, this provides the functionality to allow their subscribers/employees to stay continuously connected to their VoIP services wherever they are using the Media5-fone SIP Mobile application.”
The application is expected to be approved within 1-2 weeks. Once approved new users will be able to purchase the Media5-fone directly from the Apple App Store. Current users will be notified of the update through the iTune or AppStore on their iPhone or iPod Touch device. Once the updated Media5-fone is installed, the user is able to configure the settings to allow the App to connect or not on 3G when Wi-Fi is unavailable. The Media5-fone will intelligently scan for Wi-Fi and connect to it as soon it is available to ensure that the user has always the best connection.
