ORCA Digital Services, Inc., the company reinventing micropayments and virtual currency for digital publishers and online retailers of digital goods, has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the OnMedia Top 100 winners. Winners were selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team and industry experts spanning the globe based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz.
Inclusion in the OnMedia 100 signifies leadership among a company's peers and recognizes game-changing approaches and technologies that are likely to disrupt existing markets and entrenched players. ORCA CEO, Roger Wood, will take the stage to provide a compelling vision for the future of micropayments for digital content, virtual goods, and online information during the AlwaysOn's OnMedia NYC event on February 2, 2010. He will outline ORCA’s innovative approach to digital gift cards, as well as approaches for digital publishers to monetize their content using a combination of micropayments and various forms of virtual currency.
The event will honor ORCA and the OnMedia Top 100 Companies, and takes place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City.
The OnMedia 100 winners were selected from among hundreds of other technology companies nominated by investors, bankers, journalists and industry insiders. The AlwaysOn editorial team conducted a rigorous three-month selection process to finalize the 2010 list.
"The payments industry is undergoing massive change and innovation. This once-oligopolistic business is being transformed by the rise of digital content and virtual goods, such as eBooks, digital music, and the purchase of digital goods in virtual worlds," said Roger Wood, CEO of ORCA Digital Services. "More than 120 million people worldwide have learned how to use stored value on iTunes, and we combine that existing subscriber familiarity with virtual currency micropayments to give any digital media company the ability to monetize their content in new and exciting ways. With ORCA, our customers use their own brands, and control the ‘look and feel’ of the consumers’ payment and checkout flow experience. We believe that one day, every digital media company will have the opportunity to provide their customers with a payment experience as elegant as Amazon Payments, iTunes, or Facebook Credits by using services we offer rather than building it themselves."
