OmniGlobe Networks Inc., today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, RAMTelecom has been awarded a three-year contract by the Government of Canada for the provision, maintenance and operation of comprehensive Iridium satellite services and terminal equipment. The contract, which was awarded by Public Works and Government Services Canada following a competitive procurement process, has an estimated value of $2.1 million with an additional three one-year extension options.
Under the terms of the contract, RAMTelecom will supply the Government of Canada with Iridium satellite services including handheld satellite phones and hardware.
The Iridium technology is a perfect fit for land-mobile, maritime and aeronautical applications in support of daily and emergency operations. OmniGlobe’s Iridium voice service is ideal for remote expeditions where equipment will be exposed to harsh conditions. Based on the only true worldwide mobile satellite technology, it uses the 66 state-of-the-art low earth orbit (LEO) satellites and provides worldwide network coverage to meet voice and low speed data requirements.
This new contract will make it easier for the federal government to gain access to the mobile satellite technology necessary to meet its growing demand for faster, more reliable mobile communications in rural and remote areas around the world.
OmniGlobe’s Chief Business Development Officer, Nigel Maund, said “Over the past 10 years we have worked with numerous agencies including the RCMP, DND, Environment Canada and Emergency Preparedness Canada. We understand that mobility, flexibility and reliability are our customers’ main priorities, which makes Iridium the perfect technology to meet their operational requirements.”
“OmniGlobe is proud to deliver vital communications to those who need it most.” added Jason Neale, CEO OmniGlobe Networks. “Whether it be through satellite phones or our cellular services from Lynx Mobility, connecting people in remote locations provides a valuable lifeline and peace of mind in emergency situations.”
