ANDA Networks, the leader in carrier-class solutions for fiber and copper-based access networks, announced today the EtherDAX™ 6000, a new central office Ethernet aggregation and transport product designed to handle large-scale Ethernet service delivery requirements for leading carriers. Addressing the rapidly expanding metro Ethernet market, the recent 2005 SUPERQuest Award-winning EtherDAX 6000 allows massive aggregation and cross connect of a larger number of EtherReach devices to support and centrally manage thousands of subscribers from a single device in the central office, thereby saving significant operating costs.
The new product from ANDA also supports large-scale migration of legacy network traffic from frame relay into Ethernet, which enables tens of millions of existing frame relay or T1/E1 circuits supported by routers to be quickly and cost-effectively migrated to next generation Ethernet services. ANDA delivers a low-cost, feature-rich alternative to deploying expensive service edge routers, Ethernet switches or MSPPs by using ANDA’s market share-leading circuit bonding technology to efficiently aggregate and cross connect to a MPLS based switch/router or any of the nearly three million traditional SONET/SDH ADMs deployed worldwide.
“We are enabling a growing number of leading service providers to keep alive existing investments in routers and communications infrastructure while taking advantage of the rising demand for metro Ethernet,” said Greg Gum, vice president of marketing and business development at ANDA Networks. “Customers can now leverage existing SONET/SDH investments and use TDM infrastructure to provide Ethernet services on a large scale, with massive scaling of capacity in a familiar Ethernet format.”
The EtherDAX 6000 delivers nearly twenty-five times the capacity of a single ANDA EtherEdge 4000 scaling up to 120Gbs and will support traditional SDH/PDH interfaces from DS3/E3 up to OC-192 and next-gen interfaces from GigE, 10GigE Ethernet or potentially C/DWDM uplinks. The product provides cost-effective TDM-to-packet, packet-to-packet, and packet-to-optical aggregation and forwarding to enable flexible service delivery options for the evolution to converged networks and optical Ethernet networks.
ANDA’s new product provides highly cost-effective, secure layer 2 transport/layer 3-aware networking capabilities for carriers to backhaul traffic to the network core without needing additional deployments of expensive service edge routers or switches. Customers can then effectively aggregate and backhaul as much traffic as possible to existing SONET/SDH nodes or IP based switch/routers to achieve lower overall network costs. “It’s become a case of ‘backhaul where you can’ (over existing transport), and switch when you must given carriers constant pressure to manage capex and free cash flow for new service deployments,’” added Gum.
The EtherDAX 6000 provides a seamless migration from TDM based frame and private line network technologies via Ethernet over SONET using industry standard X.86/GFP and/or emerging Pseudo-wire emulation standards (PWE3). The new EtherDAX 6000 can be used in large CO based carrier deployments for metro Ethernet business class services without expensive forklift upgrades or additions of ADMs or MSPP equipment.
With the addition of the EtherDAX to the EtherTone™ product family, ANDA provides a complete portfolio of access, edge and CO aggregation platforms which enable carriers to offer Ethernet-based services. Currently, over a dozen major carriers and network service providers across the world are using EtherTone to provide high-speed Internet access, converged VoIP, Ethernet Private Line, and Transparent LAN over existing private line/SONET/SDH or new IP based carrier networks.
ANDA’s EtherDAX 6000 Ethernet aggregation product has been honored by SUPERCOMM as a runner-up for The Most Promising New Technology SUPERQuest Award in the Optical Networking category. ANDA will highlight its EtherDAX 6000 solution at SUPERCOMM 2005 in Chicago on June 6-9, Booth #82037 and will be featured in the 10 Hottest Technologies Pavilion, Booth #82015-T.
