Virtual Tales, an independent publisher of trade paperbacks, eBooks, and eSerials spanning a variety of fiction genres and styles, announced that it has signed an agreement with Intelligenti Publishing to develop iPhone/iPod Touch eBook applications for some of its most popular titles. These stand-alone eBooks apps will be available for purchase through the iTunes store and will include a sample app that will allow customers to read a few of the chapters for free. If they like what they read, they can purchase the complete title app through iTunes.
"We are delighted to give iPhone users the opportunity to access our titles in a format that does not require a specific reader app in order to purchase and access their eBooks," said Dave A. Law, Chairman of Virtual Tales. "Intelligenti Publishing has created a superior eBook experience that is specifically designed for iPhone and iPod Touch users. Readers can sample the eBook for free, navigate easily through the eBook, pass along information to friends and much more."
The first Virtual Tales title available for the iPhone is THE CURIOUS ACCOUNTS OF THE IMAGINARY FRIEND by noted horror author P.S. Gifford. This popular speculative fiction novel contains 47 "confessions" of sordid deeds, gruesome murders, romance gone horribly awry and other macabre happenings as told to the notorious "Imaginary Friend." The free sample app contains four stories that were personally selected by the author, including A Charming Bedtime Story, The House Call, The Effigy and The Unwitting Soothsayer.
According to Mr. Gifford, "I felt that these four stories in particular would best get my style across to new readers. The Effigy, for example, which recounts how one perturbed woman exacts a very creative revenge on her philandering husband, seems to have great appeal to my female readers—and let's face it—most readers these days are indeed female. While not for the faint at heart, the stories in this book (as well as the stories in the sequel, THE FURTHER ACCOUNTS OF THE IMAGINARY FRIEND), are written to provide suspenseful entertainment, a few dark thrills, and nice, twisty endings rather than a non-stop gore, shock and sex-fest."
"We are excited to be working with Virtual Tales on this project," said Jonathan Bonnick of Intelligenti Publishing. "Each app title we produce is carefully prepared to suit the iPhone perfectly, while retaining the look and feel of a real book that appeals to readers and allows publishers to retain their brand identity. Best of all, titles can be purchased directly from the phone via Apple's online App Store, making it fast and easy for customers to pick up new titles at whim."
