Both Dr. Pfautz and Mr. Farry also supported Charles River's academic colleagues at the University of Buffalo in the presentation of a second paper detailing experiments that demonstrated the effectiveness of CIMs for representing knowledge, as well as exploring future challenges in their application.
Dr. Pfautz said, “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to show that our work spans not only the successful development and deployment of software, but also includes novel contributions to our collective understanding of how different computational approaches can and should support human reasoning.”
Mr. Sean Guarino, Senior Software Engineer, presented research on using adaptive displays to enhance Navy aviator situation awareness of geopolitical boundaries and combat geometry in the paper, His presentation was second in the Impact of Displays on Performance in Diverse Aerospace Domains session.
Mr. Guarino explained, "Our work in developing the Modular Adaptive Interface Suite with Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) has shown that adaptive displays can be an essential component of maintaining effective situation awareness while maintaining manageable workload and preventing bias-oriented errors."
