Los Angeles, CA, United States, 2009/10/23 - Online directory helps artists and art students find over 500 figure drawing classes and open studios throughout North America.
A new online directory lists figure drawing workshops, continuing education classes, and open studios in the United States and Canada. While major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto have more options, the directory also includes sessions in sparsely populated areas, such as the Taos Open Figure Drawing group in the mountains of New Mexico.
The directory is maintained by Andrew Cahner, author of The Art Model’s Handbook. “The longevity of some of these drawing groups is noteworthy,” said Cahner. “Life drawing sessions have been ongoing for 125 years at the Charcoal Club of Baltimore. The Winnipeg Sketch Club was started in 1914.”
Both instructed classes and uninstructed open studios are included. Open studios are an economical way to practice figure drawing; rather than hiring a model individually, artists can share the cost by drawing as a group.
Over 500 organizations hosting figurative drawing, painting, and sculpture sessions using nude or costumed models are included in the directory. “There are so many figurative art classes and open studios. I hope this centralized resource makes it easier for people to find them,” said Cahner.
The directory can be found online. Schools and art studios may submit a listing free of charge.
