“As the war on terrorism grows, there is a greater need for the capability to accurately deliver payloads from high altitudes”, said Colin McCavitt, STARA’s President. “When aircraft are under small arms fire, payloads cannot be delivered without risk of serious injury. With our systems, aircraft can fly above the range of enemy fire and still accurately deliver essential supplies to troops.”
The Mosquito precision guided aerial delivery system is the only delivery system light enough to be delivered from both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). With release altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 25,000ft, the Mosquito can navigate its payload to a target over 10 miles away, and land within 30 meters. Specifically designed for use with Special Operations Forces, these containers (1-150lbs) can house much needed re-supplies including ammunition, batteries, blood packets and MRE’s (meals ready to eat), while also having the capability of delivering ground based sensors that detect enemy troop movement and even the presence of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
McCavitt said, “Depending on what’s featured in the national news, people inquire if we can airdrop anything from Pirate ransoms to the H1N1 vaccine. We recently have taken on more diverse military engineering projects outside of the guided parachute industry in an effort to broaden our product mix.”
STARA has been invited to display these systems along with their most recent aerial delivery products at the Precision Airdrop Technology Conference and Demonstration (PATCAD) in Yuma, AZ the week of October 19th. PATCAD 2009 is a biennial event sponsored by the Natick Soldier Center (NSC), and is held at the U.S Army Yuma Proving Grounds. It provides a forum for the international community of industry and government agencies involved in precision aerial delivery technologies to witness demonstrations of the state-of-the-art and emerging capabilities in precision airdrop.
