Satwaves Radio hosted Clayton Burton, President and CEO of Applied Media Technologies Corporation, Wednesday Sept 23rd on Brandon Matthews’ Blog Talk Radio show. (Replay of show at satwaves.com/blog/2009/09/24/)
Burton and Matthews discussed the future growth prospects of the business music market and what Muzak’s bankruptcy could mean for those prospects. Burton explained that, in its heyday, Muzak boasted over 300,000 subscribers. This number has shrunken dramatically under pressure from higher-quality, lower cost, contract-free options such as AMTC’s Sirius Music for Your Business. AMTC has represented Sirius Satellite Radio for business customers since 2003, and has built a subscriber base in the tens of thousands. Burton expressed his belief that fears of Muzak customers about Muzak’s financial viability, along with heightened price-sensitivity due to current economic turmoil, will continue to drive market share from Muzak to AMTC. In addition, increased enforcement of copyright laws by the music industry is forcing businesses that have been playing music illegally to subscribe to a legitimate business music service, effectively expanding the market for AMTC’s services.
Brandon Matthews, the founder of Satwaves.com, worked in the financial industry with firms such as Morgan Stanley and American Express as a broker and analyst. Matthews currently provides news, information, and forward thinking on the satellite radio sector from a consumer and investment perspective, and has been quoted on shows such as Howard Stern.
