Brainlike provides proprietary hardware and software solutions that make smart sensors even smarter, transmitting crucial information that is needed for analysis while filtering out false alarms through “noise” or “clutter” during transmission of data. The company’s sensing technology— developed for U.S. military surveillance and refined for commercial monitoring — greatly reduces customers' costs while increasing efficiency for defense, environmental, equipment and human health monitoring.
“With data flow across wireless networks increasing by two-fold every year and battery life a key metric for device performance, data reduction will become the No. 1 issue carriers face. Brainlike is well positioned to address this concern for sensor systems,” said Mr. Major.
Mr. Major is founder and president of MTSG, a strategic consulting business, and most recently was CEO of Apacheta; a company that delivers complex wireless applications to improve worker and supply chain efficiency. Previously, he was Chairman and CEO of Novatel Wireless, where he led the company’s successful IPO in the fall of 2000. Novatel Wireless provides wireless data access solutions for PDA’s and laptops.
Before Novatel Wireless, Mr. Major was Chairman and CEO of Wireless Knowledge, which developed a unique solution to allow all Internet-enabled devices, including cell phones, to access critical corporate information such as e-mail, contacts and calendar in a convenient and secure way.
Prior to joining Wireless Knowledge in November 1998, Mr. Major served as corporate Executive Vice President of QUALCOMM, Inc. and President of its Wireless Infrastructure Division. Mr. Major successfully held several executive leadership positions at Motorola from 1977 until joining QUALCOMM in 1997.
“John brings expertise in wireless applications and technology commercialization to Brainlike, adding to our board’s already strong lineup,” said John. T. Tatum, Brainlike CEO.
“We are fortunate to add someone with John’s valuable knowledge and background to our board,” said Dr. Robert J. Jannarone, Brainlike Chairman and CTO.
The Brainlike Board of Advisors also includes: Rear Admiral (ret.) George F.A. Wagner, who was a Surface Warfare Officer and served in a number of ships in the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets. Following his command tour, he served as Program Manager for the Tomahawk cruise missile system; Fred Silny, who has served a chief financial officer for public and private corporations for 20 years, including CarsDirect.com and Guess, Inc., and is currently CFO and executive vice president at Charlotte Russe Holding, Inc.; Tinley Anderson, partner in the Paul Hastings, Janofsky & Walker law firm's Atlanta corporate department; and Ron Garmon, CEO of VueLogic LLC, a customer intelligence and marketing technology company, focusing on companies with Web-centric customer bases.
Brainlike (brainlike.com) has offices in San Diego and Atlanta. The company’s founders, John T. Tatum and Dr. Robert J. Jannarone, bring many years of experience in the military, academic and business worlds, and took Brainlike from zero dollars to $1 million in revenue in three years. Dr. Jannarone, who has a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, served in the Navy as a submarine nuclear engineer and was a tenured professor in engineering, statistics and psychology at the University of South Carolina. He created Netuitive, a company that delivers computer server monitoring products. Tatum, who has a computer science degree from Cornell University, worked with Dr. Jannarone at Netuitive to help develop and commercialize the company’s technology.
