The National Institute of Information and Communications Strategy (NIICS) and Frost & Sullivan will be co-organising a growth conference titled Vietnam Telecoms Growth Conference 2009 from September 23-24, 2009 at the Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake hotel. The summit is endorsed by Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam (MIC).
Given the low broadband penetration rates, Vietnam is certainly a lucrative market for the operators. Vietnam is poised for fast growth in the Asia Pacific region by on-going market de-regulation, sustained upgrading of the ICT infrastructure, equitisation of government-owned telecom entities, 2G coverage expansion, 3G deployments and an initial rollout of WiMAX. Vietnam's recent membership in the World Trade Organization will accentuate opportunities for investors and local market players.
Elaborating on the country's busy and fast progressing telecoms market, Dr Lam, Vice President from NIICS, says, "Vietnam's mobile market is poised to enter a new phase of development in 2009 as 3G licenses have been issued and now the country's mobile operators are preparing to join the mobile broadband era. The local market has also quickly become one of the most competitive in the region with eight national operators striving for revenue and subscriber market share, and we believe that mobile broadband will play a key role in expanding the size of the addressable internet market. It is for these reasons that we seek to bring Vietnam's operator, vendor, and regulatory communities together to share best practices from other Asian markets and discuss and debate the future strategies that will be needed to make 3G deployment successful in Vietnam."
The two-day conference aims to bring together stakeholders in the Telecoms Industry, in particular, those with an eye on the Vietnam market to network & share their experience, discuss & showcase the opportunities and challenges in the emerging, high-growth market. It promises a program that is not only informative and interactive but one that is designed to provide a holistic view of the telecoms market in Vietnam, offering a more meaningful learning experience for all delegates.
Speaking about the gold mine of opportunities in Vietnam, Nitin Bhat, senior vice president, ICT practice at Frost & Sullivan, commented, "Foreign investors are queuing up to unearth gold in the Vietnamese telecommunications industry and rightly so as it remains the last emerging market frontier. With a mix of over 70 percent mobile penetration, and under 5 percent household broadband penetration, Vietnam offers immense opportunities for innovative business models."
Topics of discussion include opportunities and challenges in the growing Vietnam's telecom & broadband market, enabling rapid innovation and service monetization for Vietnam telecom operators, transport network strategies for enhancing service provider profitability and many others. There will be two concurrent participant driven roundtable discussions on new business models and strategies and investment in right network and systems capabilities.
Sessions include keynote address, industry updates from Frost & Sullivan's senior analysts, case study presentations, “movers and shakers live” panel, with top telecom CEOs, best practices updates from service providers, and much more.
