It has been said that technology has the shelf life of a banana. Today's enterprises need reliable, secure, highly functional, high performance, portable and scalable internet service applications, yet even five years ago, options for accomplishing these business goals were limited largely to well-known proprietary offerings. Few high-profile technology leaders trusted open source software to provide viable resources for the demands of a large-scale enterprise.
Now, however, because of the maturity, velocity, security and scalability achieved in particular by the LAMP stack (Linux, MySQL, PHP, Python and Perl) and the training, certification and support offered by a solid array of providers, many thought leaders believe that LAMP has proven its ability to provide performance that CTOs at the world’s largest enterprises can rely on for global deployment.
Vaco Technology, an Inc. 500 technology consulting and placement firm, announces its supporting partnership of an Enterprise LAMP Summit organized by Nashville thought leadership and tech evangelist firm Remarkable Wit LLC, joining Inc. 500 presenting partner Emma, the Web's most stylish email marketing and communications service. Other sponsors include the Nashville Technology Council, PHP Architect Magazine and Python Architect Magazine.
Attuned to the bottom line and performance issues crucial to chief technology officers and CEOs, the Summit will enable decision-makers to evaluate LAMP’s readiness to handle the complex demands of an enterprise-level company.
Confirmed speakers include:
• Lee Congdon, CIO of Red Hat Linux (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading open source and Linux provider;
• Andi Gutmans, CEO of PHP leader Zend Technologies;
• r0ml (Robert Lefkowitz), thought leader, über-CTO and VP of Asurion;
• William Hurley, Chief Architect of Open Source Strategy at BMC Software (NYSE: BMC), which is used by 85% of Fortune 500 companies;
• Kent Freeman, CIO of Ingram Digital, a leading digital content provider for retail stores and libraries;
• Bob Miller, VP of Technology at Magazines.com; and
• Jeff Kramer, SVP of Engineering and Technology Operations at Lulu.com.
The Summit’s complementary event, Big LAMP Camp, will showcase leaders from innovative open source firms who will share their on-the-ground reports in an engaging multi-track event that is expected to draw 600 developers from North America. Confirmed speakers include Eli White of Zend Developer Zone, Doctrine lead developer Jonathan Wage of Sensio Labs; Perl guru Cory G. Watson of Magazines.com; and John Reuning, Lead Architect of Lulu.com.
Scott Gordon, partner at national consulting and recruiting firm Vaco Technology, tapped into his national contacts to secure speakers such as Congdon and Lefkowitz. Says Gordon "It's exciting to be a part of what could be called the ‘birthplace’ of an event such as the Enterprise LAMP Summit. We are fortunate to have resources from across the country that are as galvanized and inspired to share their powerful knowledge of this enterprise level solution. Between the Enterprise LAMP Summit and Big LAMP Camp, they'll be bringing in the ‘best of the best,’ and we are delighted to be a part of it."
Clint Smith, founder of Nashville-based email marketing and communications firm Emma, agrees. "As a company that's grown up on Open Source, we're excited to see more established companies starting to realize LAMP's full potential. And we're thrilled that an innovative gathering like this is happening in our backyard. Not literally in our backyard, because that would make for a pretty intimate gathering, but still. Nashville will be a great host city for this."
Says event instigator Marcus Whitney, “For more than a decade, open source software has dominated market share on the Internet because of its power, scalability and security. Now, with even more functionality and the maturation of the hardware infrastructure on which LAMP and other open source options run, it's time to move open source deeper into the enterprise to provide greater value at a time when businesses need their technology to do much more and cost much less.”
