In recent months, more and more owners and shipbuilders have been deciding in favor of the VSP in offshore supple vessels. One of the latest orders for Voith Turbo covers two VSPs for an IMR (Inspection, Maintenance and Repair).
The SEABED WORKER has now been completed and was handed over to the shipowner. The multi-purpose offshore vessel was built by the Norwegian shipbuilder Fjellstrand for Seabed AS and is fitted with two Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP). The two VSPs type 32R5 ECR/265-2 are arranged in the stern of the vessel and are driven by two electric motors rated at 2 500 kW. The vessel is 91.6 meters long and 16 meters wide and capable of a speed of 15 knots.
Another feature of the IMR is the intelligent Voith roll stabilization (VRS). In difficult weather conditions, the rolling motions of the ship can be significantly reduced by the VSPs, which results in higher on-board comfort and improved work safety on deck. The vessel is also fitted with a dynamic positioning system (DP2). It meets high demands on crew comfort and also on environmental protection. The IMR has an on-board high-performance 50-ton crane in the stern area. A moonpool in the middle of the ship allows ROV diving robots to be released into the water.
The combination of an efficient drive system and state-of-the-art on-board instruments ensures that the IMR can perform all inspection, maintenance and repair work on pipelines, feeder lines or valves effectively, fast and safely. The ship has been in service since May 2009 and is used worldwide.
