Zumbox today announced the first delivery of bills for one of its government partners, the Village of New Lenox, IL. As the first municipality to use Zumbox to send monthly water/sewer bills in a digital format, New Lenox is not only saving tax revenue on paper, printing and postage, but also collecting payments faster, while offering a convenient and environmentally responsible alternative to paper bills.
There is a digital mailbox – a Zumbox – for every street address in the U.S., and water/sewer bills are sent as digital files to each New Lenox resident’s Zumbox. As residents complete the registration of their Zumbox, they can access confidential mail, such as their water/sewer bill, which appears exactly as it does on paper. Zumbox also allows residents to click a “Pay Now” button, which takes them to the Village’s electronic bill payment website.
The Village of New Lenox began sending water/sewer bills electronically via Zumbox in June. Though residents continue to receive the paper versions, they can click a “Paperless Please” button to express their preference to go paperless. This will lead to cost savings for the Village.
“In any given month, we send out over 8,000 water bills to residents with costs to tax payers in excess of $3,000 per month on postage alone,” said New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann. “By offering a secure online alternative, the Village can save on paper, printing and postage costs and allocate those tax dollars to maintaining critical community services. We continue to look for new ways to shift to lower-cost and secure methods of serving our community and have been sending official Village communications via Zumbox to residents since March.”
“This is an exciting milestone for Zumbox as we mark the first digital delivery of a municipality’s bills,” said Donn Rappaport, CEO of Zumbox. “With Zumbox’s unique street address-based system, not only will municipalities like the Village of New Lenox see great benefits, but businesses and other organizations also have the ability to transition from the costly and wasteful paper mail distribution model to an all-digital system. I am confident consumers will discover that Zumbox is a convenient and secure method to receive and pay bills online.”
