The University of Glamorgan’s Integrated Communications Research Centre (ICRC) continues developing innovative Voice and Video applications on Tetco-Voxpilot Open Media Platform (OMP) since 2004. Tetco-Voxpilot is a pure player software vendor of video-voice-data convergence solutions. The ICRC also delivers training to students using the OMP and arranges IEEE conference every year on Next Generation Mobile applications for researchers from academia and industry including contributions from Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Alcatel, Huawei and more. The partnership confirms the reliability of the platform for the development of next generation networks and its ability to integrate into any type of architecture.

The use of Tetco-Voxpilot OMP as the preferred VoiceXML Media Server to test applications over a real operator network, demonstrates the high-performance of the platform. The University of Glamorgan has collaborated with operators and vendors to create a Next Generation Networks Lab. These sponsors provide the Centre with several communications solutions among which: an IMS platform provided by Orange Labs UK, an Open IMS from FOKUS, Germany, a SIP Application Server from Ubiquity Avaya, the OMP media server from Tetco-Voxpilot, a RTSP Server from Real. In addition, the University hosts own indoor 3G Node B provided by Orange which connects its infrastructure with Orange’s Bristol Labs over VPN. This allows the research centre to do tests of applications over a real operator network and an ISDN from BT.

Though the University of Glamorgan has other media servers, they prefer to work on Tetco-Voxpilot’s media server. The ICRC had already used the OMP to develop an IVVR application, a Session Mobility, a VCR control over Session Mobility, a Video Reminder, Recorder and Playback with VCR controls (similar to Sky+) with Find Me-Follow Me service. The Tetco-Voxpilot Open Media Platform is currently licensed to the University for the development of voice and video solutions. The OMP, the first platform certified by the VoiceXML Forum, is a non-proprietary and network agnostic platform. It is VoiceXML and CCXML compliant, supports voice recognition, TTS and has video media capabilities.

“We are proud of having been chosen by the University of Glamorgan as their main media server for their researches, courses and seminars”, said Tristan Dessain-Gelinet, CEO of Tetco-Voxpilot. “This proves that our Open Media Platform is a reliable choice for operators, service providers and corporates to develop their voice and video services and run their applications.”

“We have been using Telco-Voxpilot OMP Media Servers for more than 5 years. The platform was very easy to integrate into our complete career grade IMS service creation facility. We are also very pleased with both the capabilities of the platform and with the excellent support received from the company. The range of projects developed using the platform span from large research projects to small student projects. In both cases, we were very happy with the platform”, said Prof. Khalid Al-Begain, Director of the Integrated Communications Research Centre (ICRC) at the University of Glamorgan.

“The Tetco – Voxpilot OMP has leveraged the overall experience of designing and deploying content rich applications in a University environment. The OMP was one of its kind to support IVVR and RTSP signalling which allowed our students to create fascinating applications such as VCR controls with IVVR, Session Mobility - which is a much sought after application in the telecom environment and many more. We are proud to be associated with Tetco – Voxpilot and look forward towards working with them in the near future.”, said Alhad Kuwadekar Research Student at the Integrated Communications Research Centre (ICRC) at the University of Glamorgan.
