“Woody Young is the preeminent telecommunications banker,” said Kenneth M. Jacobs, CEO of Lazard North America. “His 20-plus years of telecommunications advisory experience, including serving in a leading role in many of the industry’s largest transactions in the past decade, will be a significant asset to our clients and our global telecommunications team.”
During his career, Mr. Young has advised on major transactions for the world’s largest telecommunications companies, including Cingular on its $41 billion merger with AT&T Wireless, SBC on its $22 billion merger with AT&T, AT&T on its $89 billion merger with BellSouth, U S WEST on its $56 billion merger with Qwest Communications, Sprint on its $47 billion merger with Nextel, CenturyTel on its $12 billion acquisition of EMBARQ and Verizon’s divestitures of its Latin American and Caribbean businesses.
Mr. Young, 50, was most recently global head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 2008, he spent 14 years at Lehman Brothers Inc., where he served as a managing director and Head of the Global Communications
Group. He joined the M&A Group at the First Boston Corporation in 1987. Throughout his career, he has advised on transactions worldwide, including in North America, South America, Western Europe, Japan and China.
Mr. Young served as a White House Fellow and special assistant to the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, where he concentrated on international affairs from 1991 to 1992. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves as a member of its Term Membership Committee. He received a B.A. in International Relations from Brown University, a Masters of Philosophy in International Relations from Cambridge University and a Masters degree in Public and Private Management from Yale University.
