On June 24, 2009, FundingPost is hosting a panel discussion with local Venture Capitalists at its "Boston Early-Stage Venture Event," sponsored by Bingham McCutchen. FundingPost has organized 150+ sold-out venture events over the past eight years.
With the down economy there has been much debate over the state of the venture capital industry, and more recent attention specifically questioning Boston’s condition. Matt Fates, Partner at Ascent Venture Partners, commented, “I still feel the Venture World is extremely busy. We’re working with our existing portfolio extensively while still looking at new opportunities.” Additional evidence supporting the health of Boston’s community includes a recent deal announced on June 8: Aileron Therapeutics, developer of “stapled peptides,” secured $40 million in venture capital with Excel Medical Ventures acting as a lead investor in the latest round.
Along with Ascent Venture Partners and Excel Medical Ventures, representatives from four other Boston- based firms actively seeking new deals will gather at FundingPost’s upcoming event to discuss this current hot topic, as well as trends in early-stage investing, the best and worst ways to get their attention, and advice on how to grow your business during the recession.
Speakers Include:
• Rick Blume, Managing Director, Excel Medical Ventures;
• Andrew D. Clapp, Managing Partner, Arctaris Capital Partners, LLC;
• Kevin Bitterman, Principal, Polaris Venture Partners;
• Matt Fates, Partner, Ascent Venture Partners;
• Gaurav Tewari, Principal, Highland Capital Partners;
• Elon Boms, Founder and Managing Director, Launch Capital LLC;
Moderator:
• Steven Browne, Partner, Bingham McCutchen, LLP
As with all FundingPost events, there will be pitching and plenty of networking time for the entrepreneurs to meet the investors! There is still space available, but the event is limited to only 130 tickets!
