ARINC Incorporated, together with its partners Aviation Data Communication Corp. (ADCC) of China and Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, Ltd (AEROTHAI), this week commemorated the tenth anniversary of GLOBALink℠ data link services for airlines operating in the Asia/Pacific region.
ARINC began collaborating with the two regional civil aviation authorities in 1998 with the express purpose of offering a greater choice of communications providers and services. Today, ten years after service launch, GLOBALink has become a leading service used daily by 78 airlines flying more than 3,000 equipped aircraft. The GLOBALink network ground infrastructure in Asia/Pacific has now expanded to include 140 Remote Ground Stations located across 12 countries.
“The success of GLOBALink would not have been achieved without loyal airline customers and our dedicated partners, ADCC and AEROTHAI. We must also credit the foresight of those who worked on this initiative in the early days,” stated Randy Pizzi, Vice President and Managing Director, ARINC Asia Pacific. “They forged two positive business relationships that have grown stronger every year as we developed more services and reached more markets. The future of GLOBALink is clearly exciting, and ARINC looks forward to it, along with our extended family of customers and partners.”
Air Chief Marshal Somchai Thean-anant, President of AEROTHAI, stated, “On this auspicious occasion, I would also like to acknowledge the leaders who co-founded these partnerships for their tremendous contribution to the aviation community and their foresight in introducing Asia to the new era of air-ground communication. They paved the way for us and inspired us to strive for greater success. I wish to thank ARINC, ADCC and all our strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific countries, as well as the operations teams who worked wholeheartedly behind the scenes to make our success possible.”
Mr. Niu Yi, President of ADCC said, “Ten years ago, China’s civil aviation underwent great reform. Many saw challenges, but we saw opportunities. Then, ADCC was proudly appointed to shoulder the assignment of VHF data link network construction in China. In the mid-90s, data link technology was still new to China’s civil aviation industry. We are grateful to ARINC, who brought advanced data link technology and top engineers to ADCC to help with primary data link network and construction.”
ARINC renewed its contracts with ADCC and AEROTHAI in 2005 to capitalize on GLOBALink’s long-term potential in the region. This re-affirmation of business relationships was a testament to the successful partnerships that brought advanced aviation data link communication services to Asia Pacific.
GLOBALink is a seamless, end-to-end data link system that enables air crews to communicate and exchange information with ground crews and airline host systems anywhere in the world and without interruption. Data link provides clear, accurate, unambiguous data communications directly to the crew, either via the cockpit multifunctional control display unit or printer. It also stores messages, so the crew can go back and check instructions. Compared with voice communications, data link improves flight deck processes and increases efficiency.
ARINC Incorporated (arinc.com), a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide. Headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland with regional headquarters in London and Singapore, ARINC is ISO 9001certified.
