Candela Controls Inc., recently observed 10 years in business, May 1st, 2009.
From their time together at BASH Lighting, Steve Helliker and Bill Ellis felt it was time to offer the market an area of expertise that hadn’t been seen before; the ability to design and build an extensive lighting system which includes control and programming that integrates an entire venue. So on May 1st, 1999 they set the wheels in motion to provide the venues that wanted much more than just light, with their services as “Lighting System Integrators”.
This partnership has resulted in several industry awards, and more than 220 system installations located around the world, from small theatres and restaurants to some of the largest hotels and casinos in the nation. Projects such as Gaylord National, The House of Blues, Disney’s Test Track and Mission Space, The Hard Rock Casinos, Kennedy Space Center and Northland Church, just to name a few. Additionally, during that same time frame, Candela’s Service Department has repaired or maintained another 100+ systems designed and installed by others making them not only the go-to-guys for turnkey systems, but also the go-to-guys for all systems.
In an economic time ripe with its own challenges, Candela Controls has found itself facing a rather unique issue over the last ten years according to Steve Helliker, President and Principal of Candela Controls. “Candela Controls is a small company making its way with a new approach to specialty contracting services in lighting system integration. We are members of all pertinent industry associations including the National System Contractors Association (NSCA). Unfortunately, since the NSCA has not broken ”Lighting Systems” out of the Audio/Video classification and into its own separate entity, we often find ourselves included with audio and video contractors when bidding on lighting control projects. Yes, it’s a long arduous process procuring work because first we have to educate all parties that by using a lighting system integrator, they will get a complete working system that saves them money and is both user and environmentally friendly.”
Candela’s success is based in part on their approach of “Quality Service” and “Value Engineering” which has served them well. Each and every job is carried out with value and quality in mind. They have always worked closely with all levels of project management, from the owners to the maintenance staff, from the lighting designers and consultants to the contractors. As a result, they are very aware of the important role everyone plays in a project and continually work towards an end that satisfies the requirements of that project, on time and within budget. It is this level of attention to detail that has also added to their formula for success.
“As we celebrate our 10th year in business, it is also important that we honor those individuals that helped us reach this point, the staff at Candela Controls” added Steve Helliker. “A tireless ambition to do the job quickly and accurately, is demonstrated on each and every project, by each and every employee.”
Candela (candelacontrols.com) will mark this milestone, as well as many more to come, by continuing to raise the bar on every project they work on and by consistently demonstrating, The "ART" of Lighting Control.
