NCS is a colour notation system, a language for colour communication that can be applied to any material, surface or format. Based on the visible appearance of colour, NCS (ncscolour.com) has a comprehensive and logical range of colours and products which are recognised internationally for unbeatable accuracy, simplicity and consistency in use.
NCS was developed to enable effective colour communication throughout the design industry without the associated problems of colour shifting, misinterpretation or the unnecessary costs of having to remanufacture due to poor colour reproduction. As an example, try explaining the colour of the wall in front of you to someone in another country without using an NCS notation and see if you end up with the right colour.
By simply communicating the desired NCS notation, any second party familiar with the system (even if they do not have immediate access to the relevant NCS Colour Sample) will be up to speed in seconds.
Released in 1979 by the Scandinavian Colour Centre Foundation, after more than ten years of research and development, NCS was quick to be picked up by designers and architects worldwide. Gifting users the ability to end up with exactly the colour they want, NCS (ncscolour.com) has now been adopted as a National Standard in more countries than any other colour system for design. SCI carries out detailed analysis of its NCS products each year to ensure that each colour sample is more accurate when compared to the original Master Batch than any other system. A factor that has been relied upon by some of the world’s most influential companies, designers and architects.
“To celebrate 30 years of colour accuracy, simplicity and consistency in colour communication within the ever changing demands of the design industry is a wonderful benchmark. Our growing international client base of NCS users continues to grow each season, demonstrating that colour accuracy is what designers and colourists want. SCI is looking forward to many more years meeting and exceeding the needs of all colour users with the notation system that gives you exactly the colour you want.” Tomas Hård, Managing Director Scandinavian Colour Institute.
