Today I am reviewing the Plasma 80HF. My first impression of this plasma cutter is very favourable. The metal case panels are resplendant in a bright blue paint and have a very pleasing rolled edge to them – no sign of nasty sharp edges here. There are two very sturdy carry handles on top of each of the end panels – each made from a high density plastic. The handles are comfortable and, despite its size, this plasma cutter is remarkably lightweight, which surprised me given how powerful and feature rich it is.
The good news carries on when you switch on the machine. Connecting via a 415v supply I struck an arc immediately and without fuss thanks to the HF start technology. With a big 80 Amps at my disposal I started with a big cut and placed a sheet of 20mm mild steel on the test bench. The Plasma 80HF had no problems getting through this thickness of metal with a very clean finish, so I can believe the claim from R-Tech that it will cut 22mm cleanly. The air pressure gauge is accurate and the LED displays allow me to keep tabs on the amperage and voltage easily.
I am particularly impressed with the longevity of the consumables supplied with the machine, I have had this plasma cutter in use for most of the day and the tip, electrode and ceramic cup look like they have just been taken out of the box! The torch feels weighty and robust and at 6 metres it’s a good length for me to get round the workshop.
Overall then this new range of Plasma Cutters from R-Tech Welding leaves me with a very positive impression. They are pleasing to look at, built very well, extremely easy to use and offer outstanding value for money compared to other machines of this specification.
