“The alliance with TechQuest enables JPL to attract even more creative and tech-savvy students to our intern program and makes it easier for us to offer paid internships,” said JPL Human Resources Director Melissa Washington.
JPL has provided a successful internship program for the last 15 years. Many of its interns have gone on to leadership positions at JPL and other businesses, including some of JPL’s clients.
“I learned so much during my internship in JPL’s e-marketing department. Even though I had studied e-marketing in college, I was able to get real experience and knowledge at JPL,” said Krystina Blessing, who was hired full-time after her internship and promoted after just one year on the job.
JPL typically works with three to six interns per semester who focus in areas of marketing, e-marketing, design, production, post-production, and interactive design.
JPL’s interns spend much of their time working on a marketing/communications project to serve the needs of a non-profit organization of their choice. Previous interns have created promotional videos, e-mail marketing campaigns and social media marketing to organizations that include Junior Achievement, Parent Heart Watch and Feel Your Boobies.
Former JPL intern Brian Leid joined the JPL team after his internship 14 years ago. He is now a production supervisor at JPL. “In our industry, there’s only so much you can learn from a book, so having this internship allowed me to get the hands-on experience that I needed,” said Leid.
The TechQuest Internship program was developed by leaders from companies, schools and student organizations to standardize and streamline paid internships so more organizations could make them available to more students. The Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania hosts these efforts and financially supports the operations of the TechQuest Internship system.
