FiberOptic.com, a Pennsylvania-based, world-wide supplier of fiber optic products, training and rental solutions, was recently awarded Distributor of the Year by EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc., a leading provider of test and monitoring solutions for network service providers and equipment manufacturers in the global telecommunications industry. The award was presented in September at EXFO’s Americas Sales Meeting held in Memphis TN.

LaBonge credits the company’s success with EXFO’s test equipment, including Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), power meters/light sources and kits, to EXFO’s solid distribution model, collaboration between sales people from both companies and creative kitting of products. “EXFO was one of the first major equipment manufacturers to believe in our business model and we’ve always had strong champions within their organization,” said LaBonge.
According to LaBonge, FiberOptic.com has its roots in the Internet as one of the first telecommunications distributors with a marketing strategy primarily focused on search engine optimization. “The Internet gives us the ability to compete with entrenched players in the industry,” stated LaBonge. “We are taking things to the next level by executing upon a strategy that complements our online marketing with offline tactics including more catalog distribution, specific catalogs for vertical market segments and manufacturers and an aggressive outside sales team.”
