An alumna of the liberal arts college, Flammer will be recognized in a March ceremony for living the Oglethorpe motto – Make a life. Make a living. Make a difference.
“Carol’s success in her public relations career and her involvement in many deserving charities demonstrate the sense of creativity, purpose and commitment to community that we value at Oglethorpe University,” said Barbara Bessmer Henry, Director of Alumni Relations for the Atlanta college. “Her spirit is one we have seen in generations of graduates, and it’s an attitude current students are discovering as well.”
Flammer is president and founder of Flammer Relations, Inc., a public relations and social media firm specializing in real estate, business-to-business and non-profit accounts. The Spirit of Oglethorpe Award recognizes Flammer’s community involvement as well as success in her career. In addition to her personal contributions, she has nurtured an attitude of corporate citizenship at Flammer Relations, donating company time to endeavors such as Get Home Atlanta!, a collaborative effort by the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Association to jumpstart the housing market; HomeAid Atlanta, a non-profit that provides housing for the temporarily homeless; Pick of the Litter, an animal rescue organization; the Etowah Valley Humane Society; Advocates for Children; and the Atlanta Chapter of the Urban Land Institute.
Prior to founding Flammer Relations, Flammer headed the public relations department at a local Atlanta advertising agency. Before that, she worked for 10 years in non-profit, including serving as Public Relations Director for both the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Zoo Atlanta.
Carol graduated from Oglethorpe University with a BA in Business and Behavioral Science. A member of the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, Carol is a winner of PRSA’s prestigious George Goodwin Award. She also maintains membership in the Greater Atlanta Home Builder’s Association, the Urban Land Institute and the National Association of Real Estate Editors, as well as serving on the Board of the HBA’s Sales & Marketing Council as Education Chairman. She has achieved the following NAHB designations: CSP, CAPS, CMP and the prestigious MIRM designation.
Located in Atlanta and founded in 1835, Oglethorpe enrolls over 1,000 students representing 34 states and 36 countries. The university plays in the NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Princeton Review's The Best 366 Colleges 2008 edition ranks Oglethorpe in its prestigious list and also names it a Best Southeastern College.
