A new production company called Soonami Productions launches today in Carlsbad, California. The launch of the company and website coincides with the release of Soonami’s first short film Drips. The film is an endearing tale of two social outcasts who fall in love at first site and stars two local actors Julianna Lorenz and Nick Steklov. Drips was filmed in and around Carlsbad with the primary location set at a local theatre in the downtown Carlsbad Village.
The company’s founder Cynthia Freeman has lived in San Diego for the past 15 years and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theatre from SDSU. “For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to make films and I finally realized that there was nothing keeping me from doing it besides myself.” As stated on the website, Soonami Productions is “a group of people passionate about film, theatre, music, photography, video production and fine art.” The site also says that the company would like to "take advantage of redefining what community is". The Web will be a tool for Soonami to look beyond geographical barriers to collaborate with others in other parts of the country or even the world.
The group will focus on film and other visual means that explore the power of human connection. Freeman believes that within these mediums there is a unique opportunity to demonstrate how we as humans are motivated by similarity and commonalities. This is a theme that her films will follow as will other projects on the horizon.
Soonami Productions currently has a few projects in development including a video web cast, an online artist community, and a documentary series. Soonami Productions is looking to meet other people who share a love of film and the arts.
