The National Training Awards are the UK's number one accolade for businesses, organisations and individuals who have achieved lasting excellence and success through training and learning.
The Atlantic Link/EFS winning entry was chosen from over 800 companies and individuals who entered. Atlantic Link's rapid e-learning technology transformed the effectiveness of the final training at EFS as well as saving tens of thousands of pounds in training costs. EFS had previously employed classroom training methods but had found them cumbersome, time-consuming and ineffective in promoting change and so turned to e-learning, identifying Atlantic Link's rapid e-learning tools as the best route forward. It was agreed that EFS and Atlantic Link would work together to introduce e-learning into EFS learning and development. The partnership's initial task was to train EFS's 21 strong Learning and Development team in the use of Atlantic Link's rapid e-learning toolkit via two day induction training followed by periodic assessment and review.
Debbie Williams, EFS Head of Learning and Development, explains the results, "The team began to challenge the way they traditionally delivered courses and they changed their approach to make greater use of e-learning. They realised the degree of flexibility that e-learning could bring to EFS training. They can now train staff at any time of the day or night, and they can use the system to provide refresher training when projects have been delayed. New starter induction is now delivered by e-learning, ensuring consistency across all three of the company's sites, and trainers can monitor who has completed programmes and who needs further support and coaching."
Using the Atlantic Link product suite, EFS has created over 2000 hours of e-learning in less than 18 months, covering areas from staff induction to ordering flowers and sales techniques. Over 1,500 students have taken the courses to date and the National Training Award judging process revealed that EFS has made a saving of over £114,000 in training costs and a significant saving in IT costs. These savings continue to rise as more courses are created and students are trained.
Commenting on the win, Sam Morgan of Atlantic Link stated: "This award reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone at Atlantic Link, from managers to developers, and is a real pat on the back for all the team. To be judged in such a meticulous manner and come out on top really shows the robustness of our tools, teamwork and processes."
Managing Director Mike Alcock is delighted at the success of the partnership with EFS saying: "EFS is an excellent example of a big corporation which has embraced the possibilities of rapid e-learning. Starting with a team with little or no IT expertise they have, over a period of two years, authored hundreds of screens of e-learning and revolutionised the delivery of learning within their organisation with the consequent benefits in terms of staff development, reduced staff turnover and impressive cost savings."
