Glen Guard FR fabric is designed to result in protective garments that exceed safety standards and are more comfortable, more durable, and more color-fast than any other protective apparel available in the market.
“When we looked at the industrial protective apparel market, we found that these key benefits were not being delivered satisfactorily,” says Hal Bates, Glen Raven’s marketing director. “Workers weren’t happy with the garments they were required to wear and companies weren’t happy with the lifespan they were getting out of their uniform investment.”
“We know from our protective apparel experience in Europe that if it isn’t comfortable, workers won’t wear it properly,” says Richard Ridewood of Kermel. “That puts the worker at higher risk of injury. We saw evidence of this in the North American market.”
Mike Jeffrey of Protective Textile Solutions concurs. “If a garment is too stiff or not comfortable, you’ll have significant employee compliance issues. Workers are exposed if they refuse to wear their protective apparel correctly or if they modify it to make it more comfortable.”
Glen Raven and Kermel spent more than two years on product development. Kermel’s unique fiber construction and Glen Raven’s fabric design expertise combined to yield a new flame resistant fabric that is softer and suppler, lighter weight, more color-fast, and more abrasion resistant than other fabrics on the market. Glen Guard FR fabrics exceed the strictest safety standards (NFPA 70E) for thermal and body burn protection and offer the best protection-to-weight ratio available for single layer garments.
Glen Guard FR is being marketed to protective apparel makers serving the electric and petrochemical industries, oil and gas companies, industrial maintenance, engineering firms, automotive racing, and other sectors where people are exposed to heat, flames, chemicals, and electrical arc hazards.
