The 1,800 square-foot store is convenient to the Damen stop on the CTA Blue line and street parking is available. The Lincoln Park Buffalo Exchange opened in November 2006 at 2875 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL 60657, phone 773-549-1999.
Buffalo Exchange will be part of the popular Milwaukee Avenue shopping district known for recycled fashion, near Urban Outfitters, Free People, Ragstock and more. The stone and brick building features 17-foot ceilings inside, with red and tan walls. Shecky’s Chicago recommends Buffalo Exchange for Resale Retail in their Fashion Hot Lists on January 12, 2007: "If you're after vintage and modern looks at consignment prices, comb the racks of Buffalo Exchange. With an eclectic mix of low- and high-end find (Old Navy and Prada - together at last!), you're bound to walk out with something just your style." According to Shecky's Chicago Fashion blog “Straight Up”: “Buffalo Exchange carries pricey designers like Diane von Furstenberg, La Rok, Marc Jacobs, and Cynthia Steffe, gently worn at a fraction of the price.” (November 21, 2006). Buffalo Exchange is ranked by Inc. magazine in its first-ever Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest growing private companies in America. The Inc. 5,000, an extension of Inc. magazine's annual Inc. 500 list, recognizes the most dynamic, growing entrepreneurial companies that are changing the business landscape. According to Inc.com, Buffalo Exchange is growing because “constantly changing and hand-picked inventories keep customers coming back on a regular basis. And the company has been opening stores in new areas, including New York and Chicago” (September 2007).
Buffalo Exchange (buffaloexchange.com) is unique because clothing and accessories are bought, sold and traded directly with store customers. Used clothes can be traded for any item in the store, including new clothing. The ever-changing inventory includes designer wear, basics, vintage, jeans, leather, and one-of-a-kind items. Including the Wicker Park location, the resale clothing store chain now has 31 stores and 3 franchises in 12 states, with nearly $43.9 million a year in sales. Buffalo Exchange is a sustainable company that works to protect the environment by reusing and recycling clothing. Buffalo Exchange donates to local nonprofit agencies in the community through its Tokens for Bags program, which has generated over $250,000 in donations to hundreds of nonprofit groups since 1994, saving 5 million bags. Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases, and Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to a charity of the customer's choice.
