The Inc. 5,000, an extension of Inc. magazine’s annual Inc. 500 list, recognizes the most dynamic, growing entrepreneurial companies that are changing the business landscape. The Inc. 5,000 is listed in its entirety at Inc.com, searchable by criteria such as city and industry. Companies are ranked according to the percentage growth of their revenue from 2003 through 2006. Companies must be based in the United States, independent and privately held, with a full four-year sales history.
Buffalo Exchange is one of 142 Arizona companies on the Inc. 5,000, and one of only 10 Arizona retailers on the list. Eleven Tucson companies made the 2007 Inc. 5,000 list. Buffalo Exchange leads Tucson businesses in the revenue category, ranking second only to recently closed First Magnus. Among Arizona retailers, Buffalo Exchange ranks second in highest revenue. According to Inc.com, Buffalo Exchange is growing because “constantly changing and hand-picked inventories keep customers coming back on a regular basis. And the company has been opening stores in new areas, including New York and Chicago.”
“The Inc. 5,000 provides the most comprehensive look ever at the most important part of the economy – the entrepreneurial part,” said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The expansion of the list has allowed us to tell the stories of larger companies, older companies, and a wealth of companies in industries like Manufacturing and Construction that are underreported in the business media. Inc.com, the Daily Resource for Entrepreneurs, delivers advice, tools, breaking news, and rich multi-media to help business owners and CEOs start, run, and grow their businesses more successfully. Information and advice covering virtually every business and management task, including marketing, sales, finding capital, managing people can be found at Inc.com.
Buffalo Exchange (Buffaloexchange.com) is unique because clothing and accessories are bought, sold and traded directly with store customers. Used clothes can be traded for any item in the store, including new clothing. The ever-changing inventory includes designer wear, basics, vintage, jeans, leather, and one-of-a-kind items. The resale clothing store chain has 30 stores and 3 franchises in 12 states, with nearly $43.9 million a year in sales. Buffalo Exchange is a sustainable company that works to protect the environment by reusing and recycling clothing. Buffalo Exchange donates to local nonprofit agencies in the community through its Tokens for Bags program, which has generated over $250,000 in donations to hundreds of nonprofit groups since 1994, saving 5 million bags. Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases, and Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to a charity of the customer's choice.
