In recent years and since 9/11 we've seen an increase of use of web conferences also called web meetings.
At a glance, a presenter may walk the web conference participants through training on a through contract bid proposal, through a new corporate training program; through a MS PowerPoint presentation; or the launch of a new corporate portal.
Participants can cooperatively manipulate documents on the presenter's workstation as well as the use of web co-browsing, sharing files, conduct polls and surveys, make annotation (allowing to highlight or mark items on the display) and even send text messaging / SMS.
More about web conferencing
Web conferencing is used to hold group meetings or live presentations over the Internet. Often used to refer to group discussions conducted within a message board (via posted SMS / Texto), but the term has evolved to refer specifically to "live" meetings, while the posted message variety of discussion is called a "message board," or "bulletin board."
In a web conference, each participant attends at their own workstation, and is connected to other participants via the internet. Usually this is accompanied by voice communication, either through a traditional telephone conference, or through VoIP (Voice Over IP).
