Together, these investments will enhance the company's industrial resources devoted to optronic activities. In doing so, Safran Electronics & Defense is preparing to meet the growing needs of France’s armed forces and their allies for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), powered by ever more sophisticated vision and observation technologies
This ramp-up will be made possible by modernizing the site, constructing a new 3,000 m² building, and creating 1,500 m² of clean rooms equipped with state-of-the-art industrial technologies.
Safran’s Dijon site, a historic center of excellence founded in 1957, has already doubled its workforce since 2020 and will recruit another 200 specialists mainly in electronics and optics by 2030. Home to pioneering teams whose innovations support more than 70 clients worldwide, the Safran Electronics & Defense center of excellence designs and manufactures high-tech equipment that enables armed forces on land, at sea, or in the air to see, analyze, and understand their environment, even without access to satellite positioning systems.
“At Dijon, our mastery of defense optronics is truly exceptional. Each day, our teams push the boundaries of innovation, earning the trust of more than 70 partners worldwide. This investment marks not just a step, but a leap forward in our ambitions accelerating production, nurturing local talent, and strengthening the technological sovereignty of France and Europe. Our vision is clear: to lay the foundation for the future of defense, and to bring this site’s transformation to life in less than 18 months, serving both industry and technological sovereignty of France and Europe for years to come”, said Franck Saudo, Chairman of Safran Electronics & Defense.
