• Rail travel across Europe is becoming more important, attractive, and popular;
• Siemens Mobility (mobility.siemens.com) has created Vectouro, a new passenger train platform for flexible international use in Europe;
• Knorr-Bremse is supplying key technologies including braking and entrance systems to enhance the performance, availability, and efficiency of the trains;
• Equipment contract with an order volume for Knorr-Bremse in the mid double-digit million-euro range.

Stable and efficient operation is crucial for the reliable deployment of trains across different networks. Knorr-Bremse is contributing to this mission with braking and entrance systems for Siemens Mobility’s new, standardized Vectouro passenger train platform, which is specifically designed for international connections. The order under the recently concluded contract will be fulfilled in phases.

“European rail mobility is becoming increasingly interconnected across national borders,” says Dr. Nicolas Lange, Member of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG and globally responsible for the Rail Division. “At the same time, it is becoming clear how important strong industrial partnerships are for realizing this major project. Projects like the Vectouro platform demonstrate how collaboration among leading industry partners gives rise to modern vehicle concepts that strengthen the European market. With our system technology, we help ensure that these solutions function reliably in day-to-day operations.”

Harald Schneider, Chairman of the Management Board of the Knorr-Bremse Rail Division: “The platform architecture places high demands on integration and operational reliability. Our technology is designed to meet these demands and helps to ensure that the Vectouro platform can realize its full potential across Europe. A key success factor here is the trusting collaboration between the teams at Knorr-Bremse and Siemens Mobility.”

Platform lays the groundwork for international deployment

New vehicle platforms emerge from clear requirements: Fleets must be renewed while simultaneously increasing flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and availability. At the same time, the market is changing: alongside traditional state railways, new operators and leasing models are gaining importance. There is a demand for vehicles that can be quickly adapted to different operational requirements and deployed in multiple countries.

System technology ensures platform advantages in operation

The Vectouro platform is consistently designed with this in mind. The vehicles are created for cross-border intercity and long-distance service in Europe, particularly in Central and Northern Europe, and operate on modernized lines as well as on semi-high-speed corridors at speeds of up to 230 km/h. The train concept simplifies deployment in different countries and thus means less regulatory effort for operators, greater planning reliability, and more flexibility.

Knorr-Bremse is contributing its systems expertise and has been supplying braking and entrance systems for the trains since the second quarter of 2026. Knorr-Bremse is already equipping the Vectron locomotives that pull the passenger trains with energy-efficient compressed air supply components for the braking systems as well as brake control systems. As part of the contract to equip the Vectouro platform, Knorr-Bremse is now also supplying, among other things, bogie equipment, modern actuators, and anti-slip protection, which supports safe traction on the track and precise braking.

Besides, Knorr-Bremse’s pressure-tight swing-sliding door systems, proven in long-distance service and featuring boarding aids, facilitate quick, safe passenger boarding and punctual departures. Together, these systems make a significant contribution to ensuring that rail transport operates reliably across national borders and continues to grow in appeal.
