• The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has commissioned Thales in Germany to deliver 60 short-range battlefield radar systems, including additional equipment, spare parts, and user training.
• The GO12 is a reconnaissance and artillery radar that can detect drones as well as vehicles at 360°.
• Developed in Germany and manufactured in Ditzingen, Baden-Württemberg, this portable ground surveillance radar is already in use in 20 countries.
• Benefiting from a production improvement plan designed to increase delivery capacity, these systems will be delivered in 2026.
Ground surveillance for highly mobile forces
As a tactical infantry radar, the GO12 is specifically designed for highly mobile forces. With a sensor volume of only 28 liters, it can be carried in a backpack by two soldiers, in addition to 15-20 kilograms of personal equipment. This radar operates in all weather conditions, notably rain, snow, and fog, if optical sensors such as camera drones can no longer provide usable results.
Expanded production capacity
To meet the demand of the armed forces, Thales is strengthening its production capacity, including expanding the plant in Ditzingen (near Stuttgart) and increasing its workforce. In 2026, Thales plans to hire 300 new employees in Germany to support this growth.
“We are honored by the trust from the German Armed Forces in our technologies, as illustrated by this order of our radars. It underscores Thales’ positioning the defence industry, and our commitment to supporting our country’s security and defence initiatives with combat-proven technologies.” Christoph Ruffner, CEO of Thales Germany.
