• Delivers yellow-light technology with a wavelength cut-off below 530nm for high-end semiconductor applications;
• More energy- and cost-efficient than traditional fluorescent lamps and LEDs;
• Designed for easy integration into existing lighting systems for a smooth transition.

BASF has launched its next-generation yellow-light material solution designed for industries utilizing photolithography-driven and related manufacturing applications, including semiconductors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), display manufacturing, LED production and solar energy. This breakthrough technology fully replaces traditional yellow fluorescent lamps and filter-based LEDs while maintaining strict spectral control for yellow-light processes. This innovation delivers higher energy efficiency, lower power consumption and a reduction in carbon footprint, helping customers meet their sustainability goals without compromising performance.

Traditional yellow fluorescent lamps block short wavelengths below 530nm to protect sensitive processes, but this filtering wastes energy. BASF’s new solution uses an absorption-conversion mechanism that not only blocks harmful wavelengths cutting off wavelengths below 530nm for high-end semiconductor applications but also converts them into useful yellow light, maximizing energy use and system performance.

The technology ensures spectral cleanliness, uniform brightness and visual comfort while fitting seamlessly into existing fixtures, including tubes, panels and explosion-proof designs. It works with current power and thermal systems, simplifying installation and reducing adoption risk.

Key benefits compared to traditional yellow fluorescent lamps and LED yellow-light tubes include:

• Same brightness at lower power consumption, reducing electricity and cooling costs
• Power-saving advantage: Switching from traditional fluorescent lamps/filter-based LEDs to BASF’s solution can cut energy use by 25%
• Lower heat transmission for improved stability and longer service life
• RoHS and REACH compliant in terms of restricted substances
• Excellent thermal stability and long-term reliability, with proven performance under high-temperature processing conditions and no measurable degradation after more than five years of real-world semiconductor operations

Typical applications include cleanroom lighting, lithography, PCB inspection and other processes requiring strict short-wavelength control. BASF and its partners provide sampling, on-site evaluation and technical support, including carbon footprint analysis, to accelerate adoption of high-efficiency, low-carbon lighting, environments.

Calculation basis:
Operating time: 24 hours/day × 365 days = 8,760 hours/year; Electricity price: $0.30/kWh (IEA industrial average); CO₂ emission factor: 0.5 kg CO₂/kWh (IEA Global Average 2023); A single tree absorbs ~22 kg CO₂/year.
