Designed specifically for vertical pumping applications, ABB VHS motors are engineered to deliver reliable performance across critical industries including agriculture, mining, municipal water, wastewater treatment and industrial processing.
With NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexicanas) and ANCE (Asociación de Normalización y Certificación) certification, ABB VHS motors are compliant with Mexico's regulatory requirements for safety and energy efficiency, enabling customers, equipment manufacturers and channel partners to confidently specify and deploy ABB solutions across the country.
ABB VHS motors are purpose-built for vertical pumping systems, offering a combination of durability, serviceability and application-specific design advantages:
• Simplified maintenance Top-mounted coupling design allows easier access to pump components, reducing downtime and service complexity;
• Operator-preferred features Integrated sight glass enables quick visual inspection of thrust bearing lubrication;
• High-thrust capability Engineered to handle demanding vertical loads in deep well and high-capacity pumping systems;
• Rugged construction Available in multiple enclosure types, including weather protected and totally enclosed designs for harsh environments;
• Drop-in design Built to standard NEMA dimensions for seamless replacement and retrofit.
As demand for water infrastructure, irrigation systems and industrial pumping continues to grow in Mexico, ABB's expansion of its pump motor portfolio supports the need for reliable, efficient and serviceable motor solutions.
“ABB's practical, reliable Vertical Hollow Shaft motors aren't just engineered for performance - they're designed to help Mexico tackle its water crisis,” said Sam Harris, Executive Vice President, Fluid Dynamics and Heavy Industrial Solutions, ABB. “With reduced energy consumption, extended service life and simplified maintenance, our motors enable customers to operate more sustainable, cost-effective pumping systems that support Mexico's long-term water security."
Understanding NOM and ANCE certification
Official Mexican Standards (NOM)
Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (NOM) represents mandatory technical regulations issued by Mexico's standardization agencies. These standards establish rules, specifications and guidelines applicable to products, processes and services to promote quality and economic development. Products complying with NOM standards may use the official NOM seal, regulated by Official Mexican Standard NOM-106-SCFI-2017.
ANCE certification
The Asociación de Normalización y Certificación (ANCE) is a Mexican standards and certification organization specializing in electrical, electronics and telecommunications products. ANCE provides conformity assessments for NOM and NMX standards, ensuring products meet Mexican safety, efficiency and quality standards for legal sale in Mexico. Key aspects of ANCE certification include comprehensive testing at authorized laboratories to verify safety and regulatory compliance, focus on electrical products and equipment performance standards, verification of manufacturing quality and product consistency and ongoing auditing to ensure sustained compliance.
The achievement of the NOM/ANCE certification represents a significant milestone for ABB's expansion into Mexico's pumping market. These certifications remove regulatory barriers, allowing ABB to serve Mexican customers with confidence. They enable equipment manufacturers and channel partners to confidently specify ABB VHS motors without compliance concerns, positioning ABB as a trusted partner committed to meeting Mexico's stringent quality and safety standards and supporting growing demand across agriculture, municipal water systems, industrial processing and mining industries.
ABB Vertical Hollow Shaft motors are backed by the company’s global expertise in motors and drives, combined with strong regional support. The introduction of NOM/ANCE-certified products reinforces ABB's commitment to enabling local customers with solutions that meet both performance expectations and regulatory standards.
