• Kloiber is using battery-electric trucks in MAN's inbound logistics between the Nuremberg and Munich plants;
• Among other things, batteries are transported from Nuremberg to Munich for the production of the MAN eTruck;
• MAN plans to gradually convert its own inbound network (165 million kilometres/year) to zero-emission drives;
• MAN eTGX in ultra-low-liner variant ideal for automotive logistics with up to 3 metres interior height.
These MAN eTGX trucks will now run regularly between the MAN plants in Nuremberg and Munich. One round trip covers around 328 kilometres. The vehicles cover between 1,300 and 1,900 kilometres with four to six round trips per day. This corresponds to savings of up to 566 tCO2 per year through locally emission-free operation when using 100 per cent green electricity. The expansion and scaling of the cooperation between Kloiber (Kloiber.com) and MAN in the field of electric transport is already planned and will be implemented step by step.
In MAN's inbound network, trucks cover up to 165 million kilometres per year each electrified transport thus contributes directly to the decarbonisation of transport chains. MAN is therefore consistently gearing its own logistics towards zero-emission drives. "The electrification of our supply chains is central to our path to zero-emission transport and sustainable cost efficiency. With the first MAN eTrucks in our inbound transport operations, we are demonstrating in live operation how powerful and economical the MAN eTGX already is today and thus making the benefits for the environment and its practicality immediately tangible," comments Michael Kobriger, Member of the Executive Board of MAN Truck & Bus responsible for Production and Logistics.
The charging infrastructure at the MAN plants in Nuremberg and Munich has been expanded so that fully electric trucks can charge quickly and close to the unloading point during inbound transport. At the same time, four high-performance charging stations, each with a charging capacity of up to 400 kW, have been installed at the MAN service centre in Munich-Karlsfeld, with sufficient manoeuvring and passage space for articulated lorries and trailers. In addition, the factory site in Dachau has been equipped with the appropriate charging infrastructure.
To supplement the charging infrastructure at the MAN plants, the Kloiber company in Petershausen near Dachau has built and recently commissioned its own charging park for commercial vehicles with 10 charging stations, each with a charging capacity of up to 500 kW.
"For us, it's clear: the future of transport logistics is electric. With the MAN eTGX and our new charging park, we are bringing sustainability and reliability to the road and thus supporting the decarbonisation of MAN's inbound logistics," explains Ferdinand Kloiber, Managing Director of Kloiber GmbH.
Ultra-low liner for maximum flexibility in automotive logistics
The fully electric MAN eTGX in the ultra-low liner version, with a fifth-wheel height of just 950 mm and a short wheelbase of 3.75 metres, is ideal for automotive logistics, where maximum loading volume with an interior height of up to three metres is crucial.
MAN Transport Solutions: Advice on switching to e-mobility
The tender for the use of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) on the first 40 routes of MAN's own inbound transport logistics was launched at the beginning of 2025. A total of eight routes will be taken over by the Kloiber company. Another eight routes have been awarded to other logistics companies. Further tenders are expected to be published successively until the end of 2026. MAN Transport Solutions, which offers 360°eMobility consulting at MAN, supported the Transport Inbound department in selecting suitable routes and actively accompanied the entire tendering process for the nearly 40 transport relations. This has created transparency and security thanks to route-specific range and energy consumption data, practical solutions through individual charging concepts for each transport route, and a clear competitive advantage through concrete recommendations for the implementation of the respective route in BEV operation.
